The 2007 World Social Forum was held in Nairobi, Kenya from January 20-25, 2007. A historic event indeed as it was held in Africa for the first time. The venue for this year’s WSF significantly embodies and expressed the struggles of global activists and social movements in the WSF. The World Social Forum emphasized this year the building of a world of peace, justice and respect for diversity; a world free from the domination of financial and multinational capital; and fighting for a world that ensures the political, economic, human, social and cultural rights for all.

Posted: April 27, 2009 6:02pm

As economies slow down, budgets for social services, education and health trickles slowly as well. What’s often missed in the brewing economic crisis: the hardest hit is the millions of women, working in the formal and informal sectors, located particularly in the developing world.
